Introduction - Green Walk at TNAU

Most trees and shrubs in cities or communities are planted to provide beauty or shade. We like trees around us because they make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to the presence of trees beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful, and tranquil in a grove of trees.

Trees alter the environment in which we live by moderating climate, improving air quality, conserving water, and harboring wildlife. Leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form carbohydrates that are used in the plant’s structure and function. In this process, leaves also absorb other air pollutants—such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide—and give off oxygen.

The landscape gardening plays a vital role in relieving stress of the people and in environmental conservation. Also it provides healthy environment and adds aesthetic value to the place.
Trees are on the job 24 hours every day and working for all of us to improve our environment and quality of life. A tree gives 118 kg oxygen per year. Oxygen from one acre of trees is enough for 18 persons throughout their life. Trees in an acre are absorbing 2.6tons of carbon-di-oxide.
In this decade of technology development, trees are being cut for developmental purposes and it is our duty to preserve such a natural resource for us and our generations for a sustainable life.
“I will plant and nurture ten trees and will ensure my parents, my sisters and brothers plant trees and my neighbors also plant ten trees each. I will be an ambassador for tree mission in my locality”
-         Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
-         (Mission : Ten billion trees 09/Dec/2009: New Delhi)
It is the environment oath taken by the honorable former President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. We too take that oath to protect our environment for our generations.
